Collection: HR Cigars “Hirochi Robaina”
PER HALFWHEEL
Hirochi Robaina is the grandson of the late Alejandro Robaina, the legendary Cuban farmer who grew tobacco at his Cuchillas de Barbacoa farm in San Luis, Pinar Del Río. The younger Robaina spent over a decade working under his grandfather and has ran the farm since the elder Robaina’s death in 2010.
In 2011, Robaina was approached by Omar González Alemán, a veteran of Cuba’s cigar industry who had left to work at Cubanacan in Estelí, Nicaragua. The two collaborated to produce HR Habano, a cigar made and distributed by Cubanacan with the help of Robaina.
The lines are produced by Omar González Alemán at his La Corona factory in Estelí.
HR SIGNATURE
As one might expect, it uses a habano wrapper, more specifically Ecuadorian habano 2000 over a binder from Jalapa, Nicaragua and other Nicaraguan filler tobaccos.
HR (Blue) Maduro
“We utilized some different primings of the same tobaccos used in the original H.R. blend and covered it with a gorgeous Habano Maduro wrapper from Ecuador,” said Spence Drake, owner of White Hat Distribution, which distributes H.R. in the U.S. “We fermented this leaf for almost two years ‘low and slow’ and ended up with a flawless wrapper.”
HR (White) Claro
Also joining the portfolio is H.R. Claro, a line the company describes as “Cubanesque.” While it’s not disclosing the blend, it will be offered in four sizes
