- We are like many industries, whenever anything gains some success other companies copy it. It is business, so we all get it, and we wouldn’t all do it if it wasn’t commercially successful. Case in point, the plethora of cigars that are now released annually to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Some have been great, some have been “meh”, but it is a trend that is very likely to continue. So how does DTT get in on this gravy train??? But do it differently, something that is more in keeping with who we are as a company. No offense to others, but since we have very little sales in Asia, us making a” Year of the Snake” just didn’t feel right to me, it felt disingenuous. So…
- I present to you a totally out-of-left field idea, instead of doing the same as others I decided that every year, I would create a special cigar to celebrate someone special to us here at DTT and/or our industry. And not just in name, but that I would blend a unique liga that is a homage to their own palate.
- The debut release of this annual concept cigar is the “Year of the Duque”.
- Chris Duque is not only a true friend of us here at DTT, but to many in cigar social circles. Many of you know and have met him, but for those who have not: Chris is one of the most sincere, generous and friendly brothers of the leaf ever. For over 2 decades he has been a true consumer ambassador for our industry, helps newbies, is a mainstay at events across the country, assists many retailers, is active on social media and is always positive. And he has always done this unpaid out of his own passion for cigars and for the comradery of us all. He truly deserves to be recognized, and we are honored to do so.
- Two of Chris’ favorite DTT blends are our Sobremesa Solita and Todos Las Dias, so I created a “mash up” of these two ligas in one of his favorite vitolas of those blends, our 5 x 48 parejo. This custom blend delivers tastes of sweet brown bread, dark chocolate with dried ripe fig at its core punctuated with a black pepper spice. Offering a very thick, creamy cedar-laced smoke that billows from the mouth and delivers a rich, flavorful retrohale. It is a very special cigar created to honor an even more special guy.
- The DTT “Year of the Duque” is packed in stunningly beautiful 14ct red cabinets with custom rings bearing his namesake in Chinese. Only 2,000 boxes of this puro have been crafted to date, and we are making this available now for pre-order to our Purveyors with an anticipated late March 2025 delivery.
